The contract involved the construction of a new control building and 132kv switch yard compound. The works consisted of providing a full construction package from inception to final handover, and was undertaken within an existing live substation compound.
The schemes involved the following work elements:
- Safe digging practices to establish depth and positioning of buried services
- Removal of Himilayan Balsam
- Reduced dig excavation and cut and fill to formation level
- Construction of 300mm thick reinforced concrete raft foundation
- Power floated slab, service trenches and cable pits
- Fabrication and installation of galvanised support steelwork to service trenches
- Cavity wall brickwork
- Pre cast concrete roof slabs
- New flat roof construction
- Internal decoration to new and live existing control rooms
- First and second fix plumbing and joinery to control building
- Reinforced concrete access roads and car parks
- Excavation and installation of drainage and oil separators
- Excavate and lay new 3 and 5 way cable ducts
- Cast in-situ service trenches and marshalling kiosks with G.R.P trench covers
- Excavation and construction of reinforced concrete equipment bases, including ducts and holding down bolts
