Project: Park Lane Reservoir, Bolton
Client: Bolton Metropolitan Borough Council
The scheme compromised of the removal and replacement of a 280m long, 3m high, failed existing mass masonry retaining wall. The project was completed between an existing reservoir and busy carriageway. Traffic disruption was kept to a minimum allowing two way traffic through 90% of the construction phase and was completed within time and budget.
The schemes involved the following work elements:
Traffic management set up.
Installation of temporary works which allowed for the drilling of the carriageway to depths of 9 metres using a lorry mounted augur.
Placing of King Post I Beams up to 9 metres long with a concrete surround.
Installation of MGF Panels which retained the carriageway during the demolition and construction phase.
Demolition and excavation of the existing failed mass masonry wall.
Construction of reinforced concrete retaining wall including reinforcement steel pan shutters and concreting.
Masonry walling to retaining wall.
Installation of back of wall drainage.
Masonry walling to reinforced concrete stem with a mass masonry parapet.
A manufactured coping to match the existing half round type.
